Fissure sealing and extended Fissure sealing

The significance of pedodontics is much higher than parents would think. The health of our children’s teeth will affect their entire life. Their healthy teeth will contribute to their trouble-free development. That is why it is crucially important for them to get to know the pedodontics services and to make it sure that they will not be afraid of them, neither of the dentists of course.

The decay of milk teeth is the most frequent problem we meet during the pedodontics. To avoid this it is very important to educate the children how to take care of their teeth, how to brush them correctly. If it is necessary, early checking on regular basis and treatment should be provided.

Paediatric dentistry first of all is based on the prevention. It is worth considering to take your children to the dentist for a dental check-up at least twice a year even if they cannot experience any problem. The milk-teeth need treatment also, so it is not enough to start handling them after permanent ones appeared.

Holes and fissures on the chewing surface of the teeth are perfect for the decay to be developed, as decay evoking materials, - like food debris, bacteria- etc can hide in them.

A proper way to prevent this is to seal the fissures and holes with a special protecting layer. In childhood this preventive treatment can be applied on the molars. It is advisable to protect all the permanent molars for the children who are susceptive to the dental decay.

This treatment is a pain-free basic treatment; it is much easier than the filling as it does not need drilling.

In case of extended fissure sealing (if the permanent tooth is older than 6 months) the fissure sealing can be carried out with minimal drilling.
